Will definitely be interesting to see the results from the Deep Ecton test. Was discussing this at the PDMHS AGM.

Lets hope it makes it out again!

As you say, very interesting. Though I can't avoid thinking it's a solution looking for a problem. IP: 84.93.100.171

A little more on the topic in Kate Ravilious' Terrawatch in today's Guardian and a twitter link,

https://twitter.com/UNEXMIN

complete with a Deep Ecton laser scan and a short 3-D image of somewhere!

They seem to have a working prototype robot.

Can't open Twitter at work (presumably lest we while away the hours idly hooked on the latest from Mr Trump)

Have they got their device down the Ecton Pipe? Last I heard various permissions were still being awaited?

The source doesn't seem to imply that, the article in the Guardian suggest that the Finnish mine will be the first test use.

Copy of the photo from the bits about Deep Ecton.

So is that an 'above water' scan of part of the mine? Presumably here -

Again the twitter comments are non-specific but I would think so from the separate twitter accounts of the two companies involved in the survey.

Ah well, yes, I couldn't make it out from their website either although they show a similar scan picture.

It will be jolly interesting to see what they find down the pipe if they do get their machine down there!

I'm not sure whether the above-water laser scan of Ecton was part of the same project or separate - I'll ask John Barnatt on the High Rake walk tomorrow if I remember. I understand that Ecton will be the last one for the underwater survey as it's the most complex
