Shocked to see this confirmed on social media.

Sad to report that the fearless Cumbrian mine explorer Kate Tyler has died. Taking up the reins from her father she was at forefront of mine exploration in the North and further afield. Her forthright views and incredibly enthusiasm will be missed.

One of the strongest, most competent individuals I’ve had the privilege to go underground with.
Her endless enthusiasm was infectious.
Cumbria truly has lost one of its brightest stars.

Sleep well, Kate.

Very sad. I only met Kate once, when she and Ian visited Morwellham a few years ago. We had a great chat which ended with "next time you're up in Cumbria we must go underground together". Sadly we never did. IP: 86.163.149.74

Very sad news.

Kate was, well: Kate was Kate. Unique, enthusiastic, unforgettable. A one-off - and the world is a darker place without her.

Thoughts are with Ian and his family.
