Over the last few years I have paid three visits to Nant Gwrtheryn on the Llyn Peninsula.

On my latest visit in February the weather was fine and I wandered down towards the site of one of the old loading piers.

There appeared to be an incline winding brake drum frame stripped of wood near the beach.

Looking up the cliff there are various structures associated with the quarry which closed around the start of WWII.

However, it is very difficult to interpret the remains. I was wondering if anyone knows of any information on the industrial archaeology of the quarries here. I have searched the web and whilst there is a lot on the village which is now the National Welsh Language and Heritage Centre offering language courses and holiday accommodation there is virtually nothing on the quarries of their layout and what the remains of the various structures are.

I have bought a book "This Was Our Valley" written by a lady whose father was one of the last managers but this is just a general social history based around her child hood there which is interesting but I am looking for more information.

I would appreciate any info.

Here is a link to my photo gallery of Nant Gwrtheryn / Porth y Nant

The 6" and the 25" OS maps show a lot of detail of the various tramway layouts.
