Surrey (Chalk / Clay / Iron / Other Rock / Sand/Gravel / Sandstone)
Surrey's mining features are concentrated in the east. Minerals extracted include chalk from deneholes, fullers earth, sand, hearthstone, building stone (firestone). Bargate stone was dug in the Godalming area though underground workings have not been proven. There are also a few Wealden iron furnaces in the south and west. Surrey contains very extensive and archaeologically important stone quarries, dating back to mediaeval times, and possibly earlier.
