The AditNow 2010 Photography Competition Results
All submitted photographs were of a very high standard and judging between them and deciding on winners was an exceptionally hard task.
Photographs were judged on a balance between photographic merit and relevance to the subject 'Mine Exploration' and their interpretation of that subject.
Thank you to all who took the time to enter, and sorry we couldn't award a prize to everyone.
1st Place
Moel Fferna Bridge by Edd.
The outright winner and cited for lighting, composition and for having a depth of field and an 'edge' that lots of photos of this bridge lack. People often comment that in the era of super-bright LED lamps a lot of shots could have been taken above ground - this shot is definitely down below and shows the full horror of this old bridge.
This year's 1st prize donated by Excellent Stuff was a StenLight S7+ headlamp, battery & charger.
2nd Place
Capelcleugh Deep Water by Bart.
A nicely lit, very sharp, photo taken in (as anybody who has tried taking shots in chest deep water will agree...) difficult conditions. It was felt this photo very well summed up mine exploration.
This year's 2nd prize donated by Technical Concepts was a Retro 2 lamp upgrade.
3rd Place
Barons Sump (Smallcleugh) by Morrisey.
A really well composed shot - with explorer to give an idea of the scale - of something that is extraordinarily difficult to take a good photograph of. And requires a few flat out shale crawls to reach.
The Mike Moore prize for 3rd prize donated by Moore Books was £40 worth of mining books.
Runners Up
Some really excellent photos from all around the country (and beyond), the margin between these and the prize winners was so tiny, well done everybody.
