Now in it's 5th year, the AditNow photo competition is simply about awarding prizes for some great underground mine exploration photographs!
2010 Winner, Edd
Awesome prizes again... First prize is StenLight ES Headlamp, charger and battery worth £289.95, sponsored by Excellent Stuff. Second prize is a RETRO XP LED Oldham/CEAG/Speleo lamp upgrade and a set of Nenthead plans together worth £92.00 sponsored by Technical Concepts. The Mike Moore prize of £40.00 worth of mining books has been donated by Moore Books.
In addition this year we also have a prize for video. The best underground exploration video uploaded to the AditNow YouTube channel will win a Halo H1 lamp worth £140.00 sponsored by CapLamps.co.uk.
The competition is for photographs of underground mine workings. The theme for the 2011 competition is 'Mine Exploration'.

1st Prize StenLight ES Headlamp + Battery + Charger This year's 1st prize donated by Excellent Stuff and StenLight is a StenLight ES headlamp. This lamp is reknowned in the caving and mine exploration world for it's light output, ruggedness and small compact size. The prize includes a Sten Package Deal of ES Headlamp, 2.3Ah Lithium Ion Battery and Charger; together worth £284.95. The prize will be the new StenLight with the new improved waterproof battery box - it isn't available yet, but it will be by the time the competition ends! |
2nd Prize RETRO XP Lamp Upgrade & Nenthead Plans Second prize kindly donated by Technical Concepts is a RETRO XP lamp upgrade and a set of Nenthead plans. Video Prize Halo H1 Lamp Once again there will be a prize for the best mine exploration video uploaded to the AditNow YouTube channel. For the upload password please send me a PM. Hopefully somebody will upload some videos this year and claim the prize! Video prize donated by CapLamps.co.uk is a Halo H1 lamp. New on the market in the UK this is an extremely well built lamp with a traditional waist mounted battery. |

Please take note of the following information on subject matter:
(a) The theme for the 2011 competition is 'Mine Exploration'. You are free to interpret this any way you like, it could include artifact photographs, photographs taken whilst pushing exploration of new ground, photographs of mine explorers in action to name but a few.
(b) Photographs should be of man-made remains of underground mining, this may include workings open to daylight, but not opencast pits or quarries
(c) Suitable subject matter may include absolutely any aspect of underground workings, past or present
(d) Particular attention should be paid to illustrating the exploration of mine workings
(e) Photographs will be judged on composition, lighting, historical relevance and adherence to the theme of 'Mine Exploration'
(f) You may enter up to three photographs, all of which must be underground, but you will be judged on the best of your three
(g) Photographs should depict abandoned workings and not sites which are currently being worked unless permission had been specifically granted for access
(h) Images exhibiting excessive digital enhancement will be disqualified.
Entry is open to all, and is free:
(a) If you are not a registered user, you will need to register before you can upload images - this can be done via the 'Register' link under 'My AditNow.co.uk' on the left hand side of the page
(b) Images should be uploaded as a JPEG file to the User Album of the relevant mine or quarry and should be between 1200x800 and 1600x1200 pixels
(c) Mines may be found by using the search tools under 'Find a Mine' on the left hand side of the page: if the mine is not listed, please simply add it to the database
(d) When you upload an image, please add a description, so that other entrants and the judges know what your photograph is of
(e) Once you have uploaded your images, please create a new topic in the The 2011 AditNow Photography Competition forum entitled 'Competition Entry - username' and embed your three images in the post - the code to do this can be copied and pasted from the individual photograph's page, under 'Link to photograph'

4. Copyright
(a) Copyright of the image will rest with the photographer
(b) Photographs may only be uploaded by the copyright holder
(c) AditNow will display the photographs via its usual web delivery service and will make no further use of them without the copyright holder's permission
(d) Photographs displayed at high resolution will be watermarked with the copyright holder's username.
5. Judging
(a) Entries will be judged by administrators of AditNow
(b) Photographs will be judged on composition, lighting, historical relevance and adherence to the theme of 'Mine Exploration'
(c) The judges' decision will be final and a copy of the original, unprocessed image may be requested
(d) The prizes will be dispatched to the winners within 14 days of the result being announced or in the case of the books prize once titles have been selected.
6. Miscellaneous
(a) This competition is not open to anybody directly connected with AditNow (including AditNow site administrators), Excellent Stuff or ABC Powermarine
(b) AditNow reserves the right to modify these rules for reasons of clarification without notice and with immediate effect.
Note we advise all participants to ensure that they have legal access to the sites they are photographing and that they remain in safe areas at all times. AditNow will not be held liable for any loss caused in taking photographs in order to enter this competition.
