2 Photos of Lady's Rake Lead Mine

Rising Main: Unusually for the north Pennines, Lady's Rake was sunk beneath the water table and therefore was not free-draining. A water wheel powered from a dam higher up the hillside was the motive power for the pumps. OK during the winter, but not so in summer. (Ladys-Rake-Lead-Mine-User-Album-Image-001) Shaft: The shaft is flooded to the collar and is partially covered with lengths of rotten timber. (Ladys-Rake-Lead-Mine-User-Album-Image-003)
Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
