The London Lead Company rented mines here in 1801, but they were taken over by the Weardale Iron Company in 1840, which concentrated on Bollihope Common. These remains are thus likely to predsate-1840. Traces of a lead mine and three flues running up the hill can be seen, though most of the flues are collapsed.
