Phoenix Coal Mine (United Kingdom)

Phoenix mine was to be found deep in Barnhill Plantation in the forest of Dean. The mine was originally opened as New Road No 3 level working the New Road seam. After a period of closure the single drift mine was re-opened in by the Hinton Brothers in 1976 becoming Phoenix!
The mine closed in 1989 but was re-developed 1993-96 under the ownership of Robin Morgan. It was linked to Hopewell mine in the north such that both mines worked the same coal gale.
