The interest in this quarry really centres on the great waterwheel at Blisland known as the Durford wheel. It was made in 1865 by the Hawarden Iron Works in Flintshire and used for pumping the Laxey silver mines in the Isle of Man. It was Dismantled in 1920 and erected at Durfold.. Incredibly it operated a flat-rod over a distance of 1 ¼ miles at the end of which there was a 14 in pump at the clay works.
