Cobscar Lead Smelt Mill (United Kingdom)
Originally built around 1762 this smelt mill was closed in the 1830s due to a depression in the lead markets. It was reopened and refurbished by Lord Bolton at the end of the 1840s and probably worked until the 1890s. The mill and most of its equipment remained substantially intact until the 1940s when it was used by the army for target practice. A short flue runs from the mill to join a flue running up from the Keld Heads Mill which is over 3km away in the vally below. The combined flue ends with a small chimney.
