Blundell (Edenderry) Lead Mine (Ireland)
The Blundell Lead-Silver mine is located in Edenderry town, Co. Offaly. It was first worked in the mid-C18th and sporadic trials took place until the mid-C19th. The mineralisation is in the form of brecciated limestone with calcite gangue and occasional galena and sphalerite. It was first worked by the Blundell family and later by the Marquis of Downshire. In October 2011 a shaft opened up in a public park which gave access to some C18th workings. The shaft was then backfilled by the local authority.
