As someone who always seems to cart a truckload of gear along on every underground trip I undertake, I have always struggled to fit everything in one tackle bag. Always on the lookout for larger tackle sacks, I saw the 'Meander Transport' at my local caving emporium and at a reduced price I was tempted to buy it and try it. Apart from the large size the first thing that struck me was the odd shape. Unlike the usual round cylinder this sack is oval shaped. Rather bizarre I thought, but it was big so I bought it.

The first thing I did when I got it home was to cut off the gimmicky flap lid with a pair of scissors. I really could not see what use it could be and it actually looked like a hinderance. Underground, the bag performs really well. ‘How can a bag perform’ I hear you ask. Well, this is where that oval shape comes into play. You see even when packed full of gear, being oval it is less likely to catch on low ceilings, something which smaller round bags seem to do with annoying frequency. In fact in this respect, it is something of a revelation. For such a large bag, it seems to be extremely easy to manoeuvre through awkward or tight sections. It has two shoulder straps; both very well padded which makes carrying heavy loads that little bit more bearable. A large robust ring is sewn into the body of the bag to attach a hauling rope.

I do have a few criticisms though; there is a carry handle on the base, but only on one side. A carry strap on both sidewalls would have been better. The draw cord is not as substantial as it could be, however this is easily remedied if deemed necessary. There are no drain holes, so if submerged, to empty the water out requires inverting the bag.

The main advantage of this sack it its cavernous capacity, easily able to transport SRT gear, food & drink and also camera gear & more. It is specified as having a capacity of 40ltr and if used as a rope bag it can hold 200mtr of 10mm SRT rope.

If there were drain holes and an extra carry handle I would have rated this product 5 stars rather than the 4 I have given.
