Full Review

The purpose of the pull test was to see what affect the Petzl stainless steel twist hanger had on the threaded shaft of a budget throu bolt during a high tensile load.
The bolts used were HILTI hsa stud anchors, m12, zinc plated, total length 100mm.
The material the bolts were set in was cut granite.
The holes wre drilled with a 12mm HILTI bit, then blown and brushed.
The test was done 5 times with new bolts and hangers on each go.
All 5 tests behaved in the same way with the first 2/3 kn of pull giving a little settling of the bolt,
then at 5/6 the twist hanger began to flex away from the rock,
the flex increased with load until at 14kn the protuding length of bolt began to bend,
at 16/17 kn the bolt started to draw out of the granite therefore bringing the test to an end.
The affect of tensile pull going through the twist hanger was to bend the bolt shaft but not before deforming itself, this deformation would be useful to absorb excess energy and then identify an overloaded bolt.
Nothing broke and I would happily hang my wife of one.
