That would easily apply anyway to the section between Manod and CwtyB there has always (since at least mid 70s) been a fence across the RbT about 300 yards MO side of the former junction to CwtyB.

In fact, when Greaves bought MO in 1975 the erected a new sign at that point saying Greaves and Co, Maen Offeren Slate Mines......keep out....etc etc. Interestingly it said "mines" not Quarry!

The fence also makes it more difficult for anybody trying to drive along the tramway to turn around.

There are plans for wind turbines between Blaenau and Cwm Penmachno. Could the incline be useful for access in connection with this?? IP: 212.219.242.10

Yes, there was a planning application for a temporary (2 years) 50 metre anemometer mast located to North West of Maen Offeren, and to East of the two lakes, so it would be in the area beyond the top of Rb 3 incline. This was to decide if the site was suitable for a windfarm (the right type of wind?). I have just been perusing the applications online, it does, incidentally, also show that Greaves do in fact own the former Rb T as far as the foot of Rb 4 incline, ie to where the engine house is.

The anemometers, there were 2 of them, (one was near llyn Barlwyd) have long since gone, we got all the data that we needed from them, which proved there was the right type of wind at the proposed site.

Surprise surprise, both were vandalised after about 12 months, shortly after a hostile article about the proposed wind farm was featured in our "Parish paper/monthly rag-Llafar Bro.

Fortunatly, we had gathered enough data to prove the site was plausible before the vandalism was performed.

It is common for people to fence their boundaries though John! Somebody could take it over through adverse possession.

To claim "adverse possession" someone would have to claim they have had excusive use of a piece of land for in exccess of 12 years. I could certainly understand Greaves putting say, a gate, across the tramway to prevent access, but not along each side.

Would have to be very long gates!!! Big Grin Laugh

Yes! I could have worded that slightly better couldn't I! I meant fences along each side, not gates!
