Probably volcanos are counted as part of the cave domain, but I do like the look of this.

I think they lower you rather than let you abseil in though - but that does have the benefit that you're winched out up 120m rather than having to ascend.

Apparently the first person in there, back in 1974, didn't bother to go back for a couple of decades because he thought it was a bit dull and uninteresting - low powered lights being at fault!

If you squint it looks a bit like Gaping Gill with different rock.
Why not try one of the winch trips they do there, much cheaper to get to!

The next one appears to be in August.

Or we could just do it as an SRT trip? Innocent

It's a bit pricey though!
37,000 Krona equals just over £188.

I suppose you are contributing to their failed banks..........

I plan on being there in August, and doing just that. I'm not sure If I can go down the main shaft, even if I drop in before the winch starts running.

You couldn't really do it on a rope whilst the winch is set up. The chair follows the line of the first pitch more or less and where the hang of the rope would normally be at the top is covered by planks and scaff and whatnot.

Not sure why you would want to anyway with hundreds of people milling about.

We always used to go in through Bar Pot and then up the winch after a good look round, a nice, relaxing trip. IP: 87.127.158.157

Why? Because someone I know insisted that I couldn't do it, but won't head up there when the Winch isn't on. I did have a nasty suspicion that the Winch would be in the way.

I've arranged to be away in August, and I may as well drop something equally/nearly as big, just to shut them up.

To be fair to Him, he has a point. I have issues with heights, and he knows this very well. I'm fine once I get on a rope, but he has never seen that, and can't comprehend I'm fine with being hung "on a skinny piece of rope over a feck off drop". He knows nothing of Mines/Caves, apart from Gaping Ghyll, hence me wanting to drop it. I also have something to prove to myself, that I can do it, preferably without changing my underwear afterwards.

For the most part, I don't care what people think, I just go do my own thing, but his argument has merit, and I haven't been to Gaping Ghyll, so why not combine the 2.

The August winch meet is the Craven Pothole Club, I doubt very much that you will be allowed to rope the main shaft when the winch is set up, £15.00 a go on the winch. IP: 87.127.158.157

Well, if I can't, I can't. I'll find somewhere else to disappear to for a few days, and do this another time, when there's not a Winch meet on.

Yes, although its still a big pitch at about 65m its considerably smaller than GG. Not half as technical either and has a fraction of the catastrophe potential.

Fantastic setting as well.

I assume that's rigging from the top. Going through the system, the rigging seems pretty technical.

It does look fantastic though, I'll have a closer look at that.

Do the Direct in Alum and it's just a rebelay just over the lip and then freehang to the bottom. It's far more scary than a big underground pitch because you can see how far down it is.

Diccan isn't that technical, nor are the DollyTubs pitches, everybody's first Yorkshire trip.

If youi want a big Yorkshire pitch, try Vulcan.
