John

Thanks for the note/tease/wind-up about the Bentyfield Plan. Were these engine houses reached via the High Level?

Hi Pete,
It is all genuine! I will look out my tracing of it and see if there is any more info about access . Off the top of my head I cannot remember any site info it is simply a plan of the Engine Room.
Like many things you research you put it away in the hope that someone will be interested.
Clearly that day, hopefully has arrived!

Very interesting information, even more reason to look forward to the next visit.

Fingers crossed for no snow this time.

I just don't know my own strength, but if you buy a 'Tesco Value Spade' what do you expect ?

Anyway it will be much easier to store now the handle is shorter.

Agreed, it fits nicely in the wheelie bin now. On a serious note though, Johns information does sound good and hopefully we'll see some results.

Hi Bentyfield Diggers!
Had a look at my Bentyfield plans.
The Engine house plan as, I thought is more or less that.
It shows an existing engine house(presumably a chamber),more or less butting onto a new engine house, again presumably a chamber.
The two are linked by a line which is labelled high-pressure pipes! This would suggest it must be some type of water pressure engine -like Sir Francis.
The only level shown is Bentyfield Horse Level.
Now,also in my possession is a copy of a plan and section of this mine terminating at the Western boundary.
If my memory is correct I am sure that Bentyfield was worked by two different companies and this Westeren boundary would fit this.
Also on this plan is an engine sump, which clearly comes off the Bentyfield horse level.
My guess is, this the site of the engine chamber. This plan is in Cumbria record office.
Hope this helps.

John

thank you. I have a copy of the other plan. (I believe that you gave it to me....) I will scan that part of the plan and put on this website.
