Pretty unlikely I would say with all the environmental issues associated with gold mining.......

"it was hoped the area holds 130,000 to 500,000 ounces of gold"

For comparison, the recorded pre-WW2 production of Gold from the Dolgellau area totalled 128,161 ozs (T.M.Thomas The Mineral Wealth of Wales and its Exploitation, Edinburgh, 1961, p.211). Anyone know what the estimated total production - i.e. with the addition of unrecorded C19 production plus 1980s/90s production - amounts to?

Surprisingly small I think. I saw an archaeological program last year which looked at the Roman gold mines in Wales. IIRC the total production of gold throughout history can be measured in single figure tons or something like that.

Which mine is it ? The article mentions Clogau and Gwynfynydd but seems to refer to them as 'other' mines. IP: 194.28.139.160

GMoW have, at present, got an exploratory license from the Crown Estates for the entire Dolgellau Gold Belt (some 120 sq Kms). This includes both Clogau and Gwynfynydd and many other former gold mines within that area.
