According to Sky news Daw Mill one of our last remaining coal mines could be shut down as early as 2014 when existing reserves run out !
As UK Coal restructure the business !
so no new investment then ?

Problems with the quality of the seam they're going to reach by 2014 apparently?

The mill I worked at used coal from there in new fangled fluidised bed boilers, ash system was always clogging up with small stones, also seemed to be the odd problem with dead sheep parts or bits that had dropped off the washery plant. Big Grin IP: 86.31.17.230

The way this reads in the local paper (Atherstone Herald) it sounds like a bit of scaremongering to get production up. If you work harder we'll keep it open, if not we might close it.
Apparently production has been falling over the last couple of years, as has their safety record. There are more reserves, but they needs investment to access them and UK Coal are reluctant to invest.

Theres a good link to an article in the Guardian regarding Dawmill,on Welshcoalmines.
Gives a bigger picture to the problems at the colliery.

I always thought that UK Coal was formed as a winding up
company anyway

they certainly have a record which can charitably be described as "making best use of existing resources"
