Posted: 06/11/2007 20:27:56 Reply | Quote Can anyone out there furnish me with any info on the History of, or anything to do with F.Reddaway & Co Ltd. who worked out of Victoria Mill in Cheltenham Street, Pendleton, from 1879 to 1954 when they were taken over by George Angus & Co Limited. The reason for my question is that I came accross an invoice of thiers to supply South Crofty Mine in Cornwall with Belting and engine packing etc, etc. I have posted a copy of the billhead in my personal album. Check it out, the graphics are wonderful. Roy.M EDIT - Here it is (click image to open full size image in new window) IP: 86.150.143.229 Edited: 29/02/2012 01:06:50 by Roy Morton |

Posted: 26/02/2012 20:22:43 Reply | Quote Hi, I know it is along time since you posted about the above, but the letterhead is still in your album so I assume you are still interested.I only joined today, finding your post, but I am a member of the family, but not close.I do have a catalogue and article written by Frank jnr.but its not much. They did have a very large operation in Russia but lost it all in the Revolution, and old Frank had a memorial erected to him in Latvia I think because of his efforts to save his staff-it is on the net.He also took out many patents for his inventions, some of which are on the net.He also was in a Law case,Reddaway v Baughan which is still a precedent used today in cases of "passing off"or copying . Hope this helps-reddersthemole IP: 81.151.34.60 |

Posted: 27/02/2012 01:09:58 Reply | Quote Many thanks for the reply, It was quite a surprise to see one after so long and as I said in the original post, any info would be gladly received. I'll see if I can chase up some of those bits of info, unless of course you have any links? You mention about the memorial in Latvia for saving his staff, was this during WWII or during the Russian Revolution? Anyway this is all fascinating stuff and adds to the tapestry of british industrial ingenuity and how it was exported to the world. Unfortunately not quite the tale anymore. For those who missed the post first time around, I've uploaded the bill head to the post. -- 'Bid me discourse, I will enchant thine ear' IP: 86.147.243.180 |
