Some of the more observant amongst you may have noticed that the Cwmorthin albums have been occupying a lot of space on the home page!

There's been a bit of a reshuffle of the albums to try and consolidate a few things, so I've moved a few things about and renamed several albums. The thinking is to create a few albums which relate to specific areas but to leave the User Album for the majority of the workings.

Albums for specific trips remain as they were, albeit I've merged a couple of the smaller ones into other albums where relevant.

The current album listing is as follows:

Cwmorthin User Album - General images not covered by one of the specific area albums or specific trip albums

Cwmorthin Archive Album - Archive images

Cwmorthin Surface Workings And Surroundings - As the title suggests, anything that's not underground, with the exception of the adits.

Cwmorthin Upper Workings - Those workings above Lake Level that no longer connect to the main workings, in particular the Floor 4 North Vein and various other collapsed adits of the sort the webmaster occasionally tries to get himself crushed in.

Cwmorthin Floor 1 (Lake Level) Adit - Photographs of the Lake Level adit: it seemed sensible to provide an easy way of comparing photographs of the condition of the adit to assess change. Also provides a home for the adit work weekend photographs.

Cwmorthin Floor 2 (Smoke Flue) Adit - As Lake Level adit, above.

In addition to this, there are:

Trip albums - Which relate to specific trips. I've tried to ensure that anything with a dozen or more photographs remains as a stand-alone album.

There's absolutely no bar on new albums being created to document specific trips, or indeed to cover specific areas if that's justified. However, I want to avoid photographs taken on the usual routes round the mine being split out of the User Album because that might confuse people who are unfamiliar with the mine.

The only additional album that I think might be justified is one for the workings on lefel H, which is now lost underwater following the cessation of pumping on the other side of the mountain.

Any thoughts, comments etc. on a postcard!

All I'll say (as I said long ago) is can we try and keep some clear distinction between Oakeley and Cwmorthin. The western ends of Floors DE,F,G,H are NOT Cwmorthin (OK I accept that the way things are they are often included with Cwmorthin because that is the only way to access them) and for the avoidance of future confusion I think that they need to be distinguished in that way.

Any suggestions ?

Cheers

I'd agree with that, but the problem is that most visitors to the mine don't usually realise the distinction.

The best way, I suspect would be to try and ensure that the relevant photographs are properly labelled.

There's also no reason why something like a Floor H album (for example) couldn't be attached to both Cwmorthin and Oakeley.

I had vaguely thought about splitting out Floors F & G as well - that would leave DE and Lefel Ffrench in the Cwmorthin User album, which - whilst technically incorrect - would at least be relatively easy for most people to follow?

I appreciate the problem (just being pedantic) - so allocating relevant albums to both quarries would make sense. The only problem then is ensuring users
1. label their photographs and
2. put them in the right place.

Well done with your efforts so far!

I rather agree with Graham on this. If it's Cwmorthin it should be in a Cwmorthin album, if it's Oakely it should be in an Oakeley album. I've got some in the wrong place, due in the early days to me not knowing and later on to batch uploading based on it being a "Cwmorthin trip". Latterly I've uploaded in two batches.

As long as people are told why they're photos have been moved (so they don't think they've been deleted without contacting them) then there won't be an issue.

Hopefully that's not overly simplistic!
