Photo trip - after christmas / new year - thoughts?
Posted: 05/11/2010 18:22:34 Reply | Quote As per subject line! Any thoughts on a dedicated photo trip somewhere around N Wales. Would need to give sufficient opportunities and space for everybody to have a go at what they wanted to do. For my part I'd like to see somebody who knew what they were doing with slave fired flashes and give that a go myself... -- indicative of the type of individual found at the periphery of a fringe activity IP: 95.148.14.208 |

Posted: 05/11/2010 21:42:55 Reply | Quote I'll see if I can dig out some slave flashes, I'm sure I have a couple hidden away somewhere. I don't have anything huge like Metz 45's though. Personally, I am interested in seeing what multiple shorter exposures on the same frame will yield. -- In your mines, Taking your pictures... IP: 86.137.100.240 |

A good starter is the Strobist 101: [link] Worth plodding through as once you get a grasp of the jargon, the rest falls into place. A problem with flash is that in effect, you're transporting a studio underground. Cavers have been doing it for years with fantastic results. But I think the attitude is, the whole trip is to get one shot. Nothing wrong with that of course. My main issue with light painting is that a moving light source blurs the shadows. -- |

Posted: 05/11/2010 22:30:24 Reply | Quote It's something I too would like to have a go at, I have a Metz 45 but no slave to fire it. Of course the other problem then is that one flash unit would not be enough & then the issue with spending lots of dosh then comes into it, though the idea of several of us getting together to give it a try is a good one. Any recommendations as to suitable slave units?? -- The management thanks you for your co operation. IP: 86.178.171.168 |

Actually I did have a wireless thingy off the camera in the early days, but it rarely worked and might have been the cause of a rude word or two... -- indicative of the type of individual found at the periphery of a fringe activity IP: 95.148.45.92 |

Posted: 06/11/2010 13:56:34 Reply | Quote hey; Yep I appreciate that I haven't been on here much since around, february? I'm going to drive down to Llangollen at some point and look at Moel Fferna... the colour of the rock in there is different, almost blue coloured... So I thought I'd take some photos down there, anyone is welcome to come Maybe Wrysgan would be good for large chamber photography, which is always fun to position flashes at according positions and shine torches across the roof ;p You could maybe have a good few photo oppertunities in Wrygan for synchronised flash photography, if that's what you're intending to do Simon. But then again, I noticed there are boulders the size of small houses in Wrysgan so how stable are the big chambers...? I wonder anyhow good to be on here again :D -- Kein geneis kanaf. Posted: 06/11/2010 20:10:18 Reply | Quote Hi LAP, welcome back! Moel Fferna is still an SRT trip. A few chaps very usefully put a metal ladder in the shaft so you can get in with a 10m electron ladder now and finish in this in-situ metal ladder. I don't think anything ever came of the plan to dig out the adit, but that's probably a good thing because everything in there is nicely preserved. Wrysgan would be interesting for a trip, but in honesty apart from the massive chambers there's not a lot to actually photograph. Some impressive views, but little in the way of artifacts. -- indicative of the type of individual found at the periphery of a fringe activity IP: 95.148.45.119 |
