I can only speak for myself but if you can expand on your memory of working at the pit you will be doing a great service to historians not even born yet. That's the real strength of a site, and a community like this. Thanks for posting. John -- The voices tell to write this stuff IP: 81.170.114.27 |

Posted: 20/05/2009 10:02:12 Reply | Quote thanks for the reply brookhouse although quite a new mine had very little development it was linked to the old beighton mine and had its own coking plant the brookhouse shaft was around 440 yards deep and we then had some 3 to 4 miles to get to the faces part way by paddy train rope driven then by foot often having to stoop due to the poor conditions of the roadways in its hey day it had some 1200 men but it soon dwindled when the conditions worstened and the coal became harder to extract in approx 1966 we had abad shaft incident when the new skip winder got lodged in the shaft freed itself and plumeted to the bottom causing untold damage luckily it was only being tested and no one was on board more later atb ricey IP: 86.171.215.113 |
