This place is currently undergoing a major building programme. Importantly, they are building a miners tramway throught the woods then taking visitors underground to see a clay mine. Not sure if they are using one of the tunnels already there or digging a hole and putting a lid on, as they have at the Black country museum.

I would suspect the latter since it would be defined as a 'Tourist Attraction'.A pre existing drift was (presumably) once part of a working pit and would be subject to far greater restriction (like Big Pit for example). Although it goes against originality I'm afraid it wouldn't be the first time the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust have gone for what looks right as opposed to what is right.

The "drift mine" can be seen by following the path through the woods at the bottom of the site.
This tunnel was actuall dug as a feature when the museum opened.
It is only a few yards long, just enough thae the end can not be seen in the dark.
The tunnel is square section lined with concrete. There is wooden shuttering back filled with stones to give a realistic apperance.
The tunnel has tram lines laid and used to have some trucks outside untill the got damaged. Smartass

And, in the picture linked below, I am pretty sure that this is the drift mine (if you can focus on the background) with truck in place.

This picture would have been taken between 23 October and 1 November 1984.
