Posted: 27/08/2012 14:06:01 Reply | Quote Yes you would be best off with a GR6S, or even a type 6. This was the earlier & almost identical model, just didn't posses the "Garforth" testing port. Both are re-lighter's, so ideal for your needs. A word of warning, just because it says Type 6 or GR6S on the nameplate, doesn't mean that's what it is. Quite a few out there have been built up from odd bits. If you see one on ebay, let me know & I'll give it the once over (or someone on the forum will) Just to be pedantic, they aren't *Eccles* edited cos I can't spell... -- Regards, John... The Protector Lamp & Lighting Co, Makers, Eccles. The confusion arises due to the "Makers" appearing just above the "Eccles" on the nameplate design... -- Regards, John... OK it's aimed at the tourist market but it's a proper safety lamp, produced on the same tooling as the "permitted" lamps. An advantage is it will be virtually brand new inside, might never have been lit. Also, you won't need to mess around with the magnetic lock, as this one is a lead rivet type. I'd go for this or one like it... -- Regards, John... 'Folk from Huddersfield think Sex is what coal gets delivered in...' IP: 86.29.250.70 |

Don't let that put you off tho'...sounds like you've got the bug -- Regards, John... 'Folk from Huddersfield think Sex is what coal gets delivered in...' IP: 86.9.237.88 |

Miners safety lamp. Which ?
Posted: 17/09/2012 18:48:22 Reply | Quote No, not you. You just need to know that the vessels are packed with sponge, so the lamp won't spill if it's knocked over. When done in the lamproom the job would be done quickly & the spillage (overflow) caught for re-use. Use something like a syringe or just the nozzle on the lighter fluid tin & stop when fluid remains in the bottom of the lock filler. If you squint down the lock there will be two holes, once the fuel is about halfway up the lower one, this will be enough. The excess fuel will then soak into the sponges...hope this helps... -- Regards, John... 'Folk from Huddersfield think Sex is what coal gets delivered in...' IP: 86.9.237.88 |
