Cobblers Level, Red Dell Valley, Coniston. OS Ref: SD28839896.
This is an old drainage level that dates back to the first quarter of the 17th century, which intersects the Bonsor Vein, under cutting the Low Work workings. It was driven by hand and pick marks can clearly be seen in this excellent example of a coffin level, signs indicate that fire setting could have also been used to shatter the rock when it was being driven.
The level is only some 80m long, and just before the end of the level a junction to the left connects with the Bonsor Vein. However the branch immediately reaches a rubble slope and choke, which are deads that have come from the old stopes above.
